The 21st century has pushed science-based careers into a new realm of expertise. Students need the most current state-of-the-art facilities to aid in complex scientific and technological studies. Graduate level careers in medical and science related fields are on the rise - but so is Walsh University's enrollment in these demanding majors.
"The sciences are a key educational focus area at Walsh, and the exponential growth and expansion of our science programs over the last several years has led to a critical need for additional space that the new building will provide," said Walsh University President Richard Jusseaume.
SōL Harris/Day has seized the opportunity to merge the existing Timken Natural Science Center on the east side to a new two-story, 41,000 square foot 'Center for Science Innovation' building. To provide for educational needs, research labs have been incorporated that encompass specialties in Human Anatomy and Tissue Culture, Chemistry, Physics, Occupational Therapy and Exercise Sciences. Additional classrooms for general instruction have been designed into the first level while faculty offices will be part of both the first and second levels to support the new wing's educational and staff services.
The scope of work on this new addition is a complete work from the inside-out. Both Architects and Interior Design staff will work as a unit to seamlessly devise a plan that will mesh the old with the new. SōL Harris/Day is working with Olivieri Construction to fast track this project. An early bid package for the Site, Foundation and Steel will allow the project to break ground this February and commence in December of 2014.
