The groundbreaking for the new Centennial Plaza marked the start of construction last week. This will be a center piece for the City of Canton.
The design includes a football-shaped green space with trees and outdoor seating skirting the exterior. There is a covered stage with a video board on the southwest end and four, large vertical arches on the northeast end. A café will sit on the northwest side with a circular opening in the roof that will project light. Other plaza features include public restrooms, digital kiosks, a sound system, programmable lighting, fire pits and a "Canton" sculpture.
The project is expected to be completed before the Centennial Celebration planned for September 2020.
