SHD is proud and honored to have won two AIA Akron Design awards for Interiors. AIA Akron (a chapter of the American Institute of Architects) hosts the Design Awards every two years as an opportunity for local architects to be recognized for their contributions to the built environment. The awards promote quality design, sustainability and AIA's 10 principles of livable communities. Submissions are evaluated based on their aesthetic, functional, contextual and social characteristics of the design.
Merit Award
Interior Design - Lake Local Schools - New Elementary (Grades 2-6)
Lake Elementary was envisioned to be a compact, efficient building where every square foot facilitates learning. The district's goal was for each space to be utilized in three different ways, ensuring their facility would be flexible enough to evolve with the changes in education.
Merit Award
Interior Design - University of Mount Union - KHIC Library Renovations - Phase I
With changing trends in higher education library design and technology, the KHIC library had potential to be so much more than just a warehouse for books. The University realized this and sought to consolidate their book collection to free up space to allow for expanded group study areas, add to their learning commons, and begin to infuse additional academic and faculty space for several majors.
