In Planning
Thanksgiving is just a few days away. We are preparing to host our children, who are no longer children. They are young men, two in college, two living on their own. My oldest is bringing his fiancé and her parents. Our family is growing and is about to expand with a new daughter-in-law and her parents. All of this was unimaginable just 5 years ago. We were just preparing to send our oldest one to college. All four of our children were still at home just a few years ago. As I look 5 more years into the future, I see more and even greater changes coming to our family.
The business world is no different. It is always changing. The organizations that have been around for a long time have put in the effort to change and adapt to the world around them. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a great time to pause and look into the future. How does your organization need to change to be relevant over the next 5 years? Do you have a need to hire young talent? Will they be attracted to your organization. Does your culture, environment, and policies attract or dissuade people from working with you?
The educational side of our business has been focused on creating environments where hands on and experiential learning is of paramount importance. There is a significant amount of change that is required to think and teach differently. However the results of this change, have significant positive impacts on the learning outcomes of the students.
We are recreating downtown Mount Vernon. Buildings that were built in the 1840’s are being repurposed into modern loft style apartments. Downtown living is infusing new life into the City. These buildings were once seen as too scary to do anything with, their floors dangerous to even step on for fear of falling through. Vision and creative planning has now created excitement for what is to come. This will be a positive change where once there was stagnation and decay.
Change requires vision. Our specialty is creating a vision and seeing possibilities where others can not. It can be done, it just takes creativity and a lot of thought. Change sometimes evokes a sense of fear. That fear can change to excitement and positive change when done correctly. What vision do you have in the next 5 years? SoL Harris/Day would like to thank our clients for putting their trust in us to help them create a vision for change in their organizations.
