American Institute of Architects, Akron Chapter hosted local architecture firms at the end of September to celebrate the winners of their 2021 Design Awards. With many great projects and firms represented, SHD is excited to have received two awards. Tallmadge City Schools won an Honor Award for their new Early Learning Campus that houses both the elementary and middle school. The Stark County IT Department took home a Merit Award for their newly renovated offices. We are excited to hear and share the judges comments about these fantastic projects:
Tallmadge City Schools New Elementary + Middle School Campus
Jury Comments: "This project was successful inside and out and the architecture recreates itself on the interior. The project successfully creates a campus for the elementary and middle school with simple but playful architecture and interior design. Strong rhythmic sense of the structure marching through the spaces, the clean openness of the public spaces that do not feel cold and barren. This project is nicely executed and the environment it creates demonstrates it was designed with kids in mind, including the subtle inclusion of basophilic design and openness of space."
Stark County IT Department
Jury Comments: "The before and after photographs present a complete change to the aura of the space, transforming the interior for an IT department, which are many times neglected and relegated to dingy basements. It is now a space with daylight, innovative furnishing, openness, and clarity. The jury considered the design thoughtful, creative, and restrained. The color pallet is consistent, not overly busy and provides a sophisticated workspace. Clean, simple, and hopefully much appreciated by the end users. One can recognize the designers helped the client to step outside their boundaries and created an attractive indoor space that does not look or feel like a typical government building."
