Abbi began her work at SHD as a full-time Interior Design intern. Three months is all it took to not only change her perspective on the workplace, but also change her as a person. She jumped at the opportunity to work at SHD full time after that first year, and has been here ever since.
What attracted you to Interior Design?
"Like most students, I was torn between my interests and my skills. Math and engineering always came naturally to me, but artistry and creative expression flowed through my veins like the beat of a drum. Interior design offered the bridge between the two. Design allows me to technically draft construction drawings and calculate programmatic needs while offering an outlet to organically compose revitalizing spaces that foster joy."
Favorite Project?
"The most fulfilling projects for me are the ones with average budgets and minimal expectations because these projects allow me to provide the end user with spaces that not only meet their needs but also provide a sense of well-being and hope. The Stark County Commissioners’ – IT Department renovation project did just that. Transforming an outdated 1970s building into a modern, industrial office building opened up the potential for more collaboration and increased opportunities as a (3) department organization, creating a bright, functional work environment to be proud of."
