The new facility at Camp Ledgewood in Peninsula, Ohio will serve as a source of exploration and discovery for Girl Scouts and youth from the larger community through collaboration with local educators. It will introduce them to STEM research and activities, inspire curiosity, and help to develop important skills for success!
The design centers around the theme of Biomimicry which is literally an imitation of what is found in nature translated into the principles of human engineering. The project aspires to minimize the environmental impact of both construction and operation, serving as a teaching tool for members and visitors. Strategies include minimizing site impact, reducing impervious surfaces, responsible stormwater management, reducing energy consumption through daylighting and natural ventilation, an accessible green roof, and other strategies geared to model environmental responsibility to young visitors.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin this November 2022!
