During this month of December, we have many things to celebrate, including Hannah Ayala's 5th Anniversary working for SHD. She has learned that successful projects result from drawing on the connections you make with your clients throughout the design process. Some of Hannah's other reflections include:
What made you decide to pursue Architecture?
Very late in high school, I found myself trying to discern how I wanted to apply my love for art and interests in a variety of different areas. I heard the quote: “Engineers know everything about something, and Architects know something about everything” and that really spoke to me.
What made you choose to become WELL Certified and has it influenced how you approach each project?
I have always been interested in the psychology and sociology side to architecture as well as sustainable design. The WELL Building Standard is a marriage of those passions for me. Becoming a WELL AP has focused me as a designer on the positive impact I can make on the people who use the spaces I help design, just by doing the little things right.
What attracted you to SHD and what keeps you working here?
I was attracted to SoL Harris/Day in part due to the respect our firm has earned, though its connection to the community, as leaders in design. Secondly, because of the office motto “designed for people, designed for life”. SHD has beyond surpassed my expectations coming out of school as an architecture grad. Our firm culture has pushed me to grow, allowed me to become a better leader, and provided me with amazing mentors. I love coming to work at a place that feels like family, and where each and every person here makes a great teammate.
