We all have a vision of what the first year starting your career will look like. It can be fun to compare our vision and reality and see how it measures up. Jeremy Shawe is celebrating his first year as an Architectural Designer and his first year at SHD. See how his first year has evolved...
What made you choose Architecture?
I chose architecture because I enjoyed trying to find all the creative solutions for a given design problem. I like the creative process and getting to have an inhabitable space as a finished project is pretty cool.
Has working in architecture this past year lived up to your expectations you had when choosing to pursue this career path?
It has been much more of a technical process than I thought. I had thought each portion of the design and construction process was more siloed, however I see now just how integral each part is; their is a lot of crossover and shared knowledge applied across each stage.
What do you see as SHD’s strengths?
SHD's strength is definitely its friendliness. I never feel scared or dumb for asking questions and the mentorship I have received is very helpful for a new designer like me.
What is your biggest lesson learned since starting at SHD?
That when using BIM software, if you change something that seems small like a door opening, it can be like a butterfly effect. You have to be aware of this and plan ahead for more subsequent changes.
