They say that time flies when you are having fun and the last 15 years have flown by so quickly for Stephanie at SōL Harris/Day. She brings a unique perspective to her job since she is not trained as an architect or interior designer. This allows her to see projects from our clients understanding. She has learned a great deal about this industry in her 15 years that has allowed her to combine both perspectives when developing marketing materials. Here are some things she has learned along the way...
What changes have you seen throughout the last 15 years?
"From a marketing point of view, I have the unique opportunity to learn about the projects and people that make up this firm. The firm has grown considerably since I started in many ways. We have gone from a 20-person firm to a 30-person firm. Our experience has certainly grown, especially in our key markets of education, workplace and recreation. And what speaks most about our firm is the growth of projects from repeat clients. Nothing makes a statement about the quality of work you do better than people who want to come back and work with you again."
What do you see as unique that SoL Harris/Day does when developing a project?
"From a non-designers perspective, I see how they take the time to ask questions and really listen to the clients' answers. They use these answers and pair it with their knowledge to create spaces that function best for the people and environment. I also see how much they care. How much time they put in. They treat each project like it is their baby, trying to develop a design that fits the needs/wants and the budget. Their excitement to see the new spaces realized matches the clients'."
What is unique about working for SoL Harris/Day?
"It has been said by others and is worth repeating... the second family you acquire when working here. You are not just another employee. They see the whole person and want to nurture that person inside and outside the office. While they have a set of standards to follow, they understand that each person is an individual with their own unique needs and they work with you to get the best out of your professional and personal life. They have given me flexibility when needed that is so rare to find."
What aspects do you like best about your job?
"Variety. Not every day is the same. I get to work on so many different things that can include proposals to win projects, designs for wall murals or signs for our clients' projects, social media posts, company brochures or invitations, and even interacting with the people who visit our office. I love being able to help in so many different ways."
