One year... a great deal of experience can occur in just a year. Mya is celebrating her 1 year anniversary this month at SōL Harris/Day and we asked her some questions about how she views Interior Design and SōL Harris/Day after a year with the firm. Let's find out what she had to say...
What is your favorite part of your job?
"My favorite part of being an Interior Designer is watching a project come to life throughout the process. I enjoy working with the clients and design team. It helps me to understand the needs of the client while working through drawings and our 3D modeling software. I enjoy the process of selecting materials, finishes, and color palettes that represent the client and their space. It is truly rewarding to go on-site and see your creative ideas form a space that will impact a community of people."
What is the biggest lesson learned since working for SHD?
"The biggest lesson learned since working for SōL Harris/Day is to create relationships and environments that encourage communication with the client and project team. While working with other designers on projects, I have had the opportunity to see how important those relationships become as a project progresses. It allows us to engage as a team and share ideas that will positively impact the design."
How has SHD helped you develop as an interior designer?
"SōL Harris/Day has allowed me to grow as an interior designer through great mentors and welcoming project teams. Throughout my first year as a designer, I have had the chance to learn from many other designers and architects. I have been able to expand my knowledge by working on a variety of projects including K-12 renovations, higher education renovations, and workplace new construction and renovation projects."
What do you see as SHD’s strengths?
"SōL Harris/Day provides an environment that developes growth in their designers. They provide a community that ensures collaboration and support but also creates an atmosphere that encourages excitement and excellence by learning through others. The ability to work with architects, designers, and project managers with an abundance of knowledge in the industry allows the projects to develop with an understanding of functionality, sustainability, and creative design solutions."
