Regina is celebrating 10 years with SHD...a full decade of experience. Our firm has been gifted with Regina's Interior Design talents and solid work ethic. She is a valuable part of our team, creating unique and successful outcomes for our clients. Regina is also a great First Friday event planner for the office! We touched base with her to get some insights on her experiences over the past decade and here is what she shared with us:
What challenges you most with your interior design role?
"The visual world moves very fast, especially with social media suggesting new things at the touch of a finger. What is trending today for a client might not be the popular opinion tomorrow. It can be challenging to narrow in on the long-term style and need of the client rather than the latest trend, and with many voices in the room it can be difficult to find the balance to satisfy the majority."
What benefits does SHD offer that have helped you succeed?
"I heard an encouraging message recently that sometimes we have the capacity to help a firm keep growing, and sometimes we only have the capacity to keep a firm going, but both are valuable and important. SHD is great at meeting you where you want to be or need to be and supporting you regardless. I’ve been supported in growth opportunities that have allowed me to become a better leader. On the other side, I’ve been supported when I’ve felt overwhelmed and asked for help. The people at SHD always offer a hand without question."
What is the biggest lesson learned since working for SHD?
"Design is only one service we offer. Fostering relationships – whether it be externally with clients, contractors, vendors, the community, etc. or internally with the SHD team… that has an equal, and sometimes greater, impact."
What is your favorite part of a project?
"The easy answer is any task related to thinking through a design detail or how to better a user’s interaction with their space. The unexpected answer is that I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with creating a set of construction documents. I love documenting the design and seeking the best way to properly communicate its intent to the contactor and client. At the end of the day, the built environment is what a lot of folks see, but for those that were a part of the process, clear documentation can really help the product make it to the finish line and can ease some of the headaches along the way. A well put together set of construction documents can be a piece of art on their own."
