In the small town of Lititz in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania cutting edge lighting, sound and production companies can be found serving the needs of famous touring bands and stage shows. These companies form a one of a kind community at a 96-acre campus called Rock Lititz. The centerpiece of the campus is a 30,000 sf, 100-foot-high rehearsal facility for live events. The campus and studio are where these events are conceptualized, built and tested before heading out on tour or to permanent residency. Along with many tourists to the area during summer months , the band’s “roadies” come into town for as long as a month to assemble and rehearse. Thus, creating a need for a unique new hotel.
The exterior design reflects not only the modern aesthetic of the campus but also has a nod to the local community. The material that creates the most impact on the exterior are the copper colored dimensional metal panels. These panels give the hotel a unique identity compared to the other facilities on the campus. The three-dimensional look and metallic finish create shadows during the day that gives the building a varying appearance. And at night embedded lighting creates a beacon for weary travelers.
Ample glass on the entry level connects the interior of the building to the surrounding campus. Corrugated black metal siding was used to match the other buildings to enhance the campus feel. Wood look cement board panels were used to highlight the restaurant area on the entry side and the meeting room space on the rear of the building. The rest of the facility is clad with cement board lap siding run horizontally. This look is to match the many houses and barns that dot the countryside in this area.
The Hotel Rock Lititz was designed to provide guests with an all access pass to a backstage experience. They enter the hotel through a spacious lobby adorned with a one-of-a-kind speaker wall, comfortable lounge areas, a game room and a connecting 110-seat restaurant and bar that is open to the public.
With 139 rooms, they fill every need with deluxe double queens, deluxe kings, extended stay suites, and luxury penthouse suites that have private elevator access. Located at the top of the hotel, the two penthouse suites, with 12-foot ceilings, connect through a series of 10-foot high doors, giving them the ability to be rented individually or jointly. The fifth floor was also designed with other rooms and suites that connect to the penthouse lobby so that talent, which includes multiple members and staff, can be securely separated from any other guests on the floor. This private, flexible concept is a unique feature of the hotel that most other facilities cannot offer.
The interior is designed with a trendy edge throughout, offering a subtle nod to the live event industry, including elements such as the use of retired stage gear, a speaker wall, tour bus-style event space and more. Local Lititz flair, including the use of reclaimed barn wood, sculptural art, and penthouse views of the picturesque landscape, provide guests with a unique experience immersed in the local culture.
Not only can you enjoy this area as a tourist, but there is a significant pool of technology companies [in this area] that are creating good ideas and bringing them to market, and a lot of creative minds that are really responsible for many of the things that you see in this hotel.
