After a devastating fire, SōL Harris/Day was called on to help restore the home of the Akron Community Foundation. The Foundation’s main lobby, which was totally destroyed down to the structure of the building, had to be completely re-built, with new walls, ceilings, lighting, electrical, mechanical, and technology. This afforded SHD and the Foundation a “clean slate” and the opportunity to rebrand the workplace and improve the function and aesthetic of the main entry, lobby, board room, and staff offices.
I am personally grateful for all you’ve done to make my vision for our space fulfilled. With your lead, we have together transformed our offices for our generation and for years to come.
John Petures, President & CEO, Akron Community Foundation
The existing lobby space was reworked to accommodate a new, glass-enclosed, technology-equipped, 8-person conference room. Technology and functional improvements were incorporated into the new 36-seat Board Room for Foundation and community use. The entire workplace was upgraded with LED lighting for increased energy efficiency and improved quality of light.
Since the entire office building suffered smoke damage, the Foundation was able to achieve cosmetic upgrades to the entire building, including new ceilings, carpeting, paint, and wallcoverings throughout. This allowed for a seamless transition between the brand new office areas and the renovated workspaces. Designers worked closely with the Foundation to select colors and finishes that would represent ACF’s mission and branding and provide a holistic design for a timeless new image.
